3. Adding Your First Dashboard
Adding Your First Dashboard
Connecting to Your Server
In order to add your first dashboard, you must first establish a connection between curator and your BI server. Curator is able to connect to multiple BI tools so we will go through how each connection is made.
Click on Integrations → Connections in the left hand menu to see existing connections within your instance. You will see each connection, their name, their slug (customizable url extension), as well as the BI platform they are associated with. Next click on New Connection and follow along below for your specific BI platform.
Tableau
Tableau Server
Enter Site name (e.g. https://analytics.acme.com)
Enter Service Account credentials or Personal Access Token. To enter Personal Access Token, follow the below steps:
Log onto your Tableau Server
Click account icon on top right of screen
Select My Account Settings
Scroll to Personal Access Token
Enter a Name for your Token and click Create Token
Additional information on Personal Access Tokens can be found in Tableau’s documentation.
Tableau Cloud
Select the Tableau Cloud Host region (found in the server url)
Enter the Site name (found in the server url after logging in)
Enter your Personal Access Token
To enter Personal Access Token, follow the below steps:
Log onto your Tableau Server
Click account icon on top right of screen
Select My Account Settings
Scroll to Personal Access Token
Enter a Name for your Token and click Create Token
Additional information on Personal Access Tokens can be found in Tableau’s documentation.
Power BI
Enter your Tenant ID in Azure. To find your Tenant ID, follow this documentation.
ThoughtSpot
Enter your ThoughtSpot URL
Enter your ThoughtSpot credentials
Once you have established a connection to your server you can begin adding individual dashboard connections. For our example we will use a Tableau dashboard but the instructions are similar for other BI platforms.
Click Tableau (or your BI Platform Option) → Dashboards → New Dashboard then select your desired Server, Site, Project, Workbook, and Dashboard then click create to establish a connection.
If the connection is successful you should see the dashboard listed in your dashboard menu.
Adding Your Dashboard to the Menu
After a connection to a dashboard has been established, the quickest method of adding it to your curator instance is by a menu link within the navigation pane at the top.
To do this, click Content → Navigation → New Menu Link.
Select the dashboard as your link type then select the specific dashboard you want to add. There are other options available for you to customize. Once you have finished, click create to add the dashboard to your navigation. You will be brought to a page that displays the navigation hierarchy. You can control the navigation pane’s order and drop down menus here.
If you leave the page and need to return then click Content → Reorder Navigation.
After you have decided on your navigation hierarchy, confirm your changes and test them out on the front end.
Navigation menu links that lead to dashboards will display them as a default page containing a dashboard. If you are interested in more advanced layouts, customization, and features you can leverage while showing dashboards then see our instructions on adding a page!
